Keeping Your Pets Safe on Howl-o-ween
Halloween is filled with ghouls, witches, candy & potential hazards to your pet. Here are some tips on keeping your furry friends safe for a spooktactular Halloween.
- Keep your pets away from the candy bowl! Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is toxic to most pets. Other candy can cause gastrointestinal upset and possible pancreatitis (painful inflammation of the pancreas). Also, candy wrappers pose a great threat. If wrappers are ingested, it could cause intestinal obstruction and if severe enough, may even require surgery.
- It is best to keep glow sticks away from your pets. If they are punctured, it could cause pain & irritation in the mouth. Keeping your four-legged friends away from candles or any open flames is always wise.
- Make sure your pet’s identification tag is up to date. Strangers and loud noises could cause stress in your pet, which may make them dart through an open door. Having their identification tag on can help locate pets that may have escaped. It helps to keep them in a quiet place where they can’t access an open door.
- Always use caution around children, especially children that are dressed up in costumes that may spook your pet. Never leave your pet unattended in their costume. Some costumes could be dangerous and be choking hazards.
